Everything you need to know about the Rabbitohs Institute of Sports Management delivered by TAFE NSW

A minimum of two guaranteed graduate roles (across various departments) will be offered to graduates at the South Sydney Rabbitohs each year.

Outside of the South Sydney Rabbitohs, potential career pathways from completing the course include (either in a sports club or other businesses):

  • Operations Coordinator
  • Sports Program Officer / Coordinator
  • Workforce Coordinator
  • Community Development Officer
  • Project Administrator/Coordinator
  • Sport Development Manager
  • Junior Performance Coach
  • Competition manager
  • Facility / Centre manager
  • Volunteer Coordinator

TAFE NSW will be delivering training and assessment for BSB50420 - Diploma of Leadership and Management and SIS50122 - Diploma of Sport, Aquatics and Recreation Management. Students need to successfully complete all units delivered across the two Diplomas to receive both qualifications.

  • 100 hours of work-based placement within the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
  • Exposure to South Sydney Rabbitohs football operations, fan engagement, membership operations, community engagement, marketing and media communications, events, clinics and more.
  • Guest presentations from South Sydney Rabbitohs staff, coaches and players
  • Networking opportunities with staff at the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

No. The work integrated learning program is voluntary and not linked to your completion of academic coursework.

The work integrated learning component is your exclusive inside access inside access to the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Use this opportunity to bring your coursework to life with hands-on experience, and build valuable relationships and networks within the industry. Graduates will receive a record of obtainment for participating in work integrated learning for their resume.

  • No ATAR requirement
  • Year 12 graduate: successful completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent
  • Laptop (needs to be brought to all classes)
  • Access to the internet (outside of class hours)
  • Existing digital skills – Microsoft Office suite
  • Existing volunteer or work experience preferred
  • Ability to record videos

Face to face classes for two days a week at the South Sydney Rabbitohs headquarters in Heffron Park Maroubra or Redfern Oval. Virtual classes or self-directed time for approximately six hours per week. Prep reading and assessment completion for approximately eight hours per week.

The next intake is scheduled to commence in July 2025.

Subject to successfully completing each unit, you will complete the course in 11 months.

By completing the BSB50420 - Diploma of Leadership and Management and SIS50122 - Diploma of Sport, Aquatics and Recreation Management as part of the South Sydney Rabbitohs and TAFE NSW collaboration, students will have access to a nationally-recognised suite of diploma-to-degree pathways.

In addition to receiving entry to university, graduates will also receive up to one year of credit for a degree in some of Australia’s leading universities including the Bachelor of Sport Management and Bachelor of Business with a major in Sport Management.

Choosing a diploma-degree pathway means that graduates are academically well prepared for bachelor study and have the work skills and experience to start their dream career in a shorter time frame.

Yes, you will need to provide a transcript for units undertaken at another training provider. Where eligible, credit transfers can be applied to units that fits the criteria. See our info sessions to make further enquiries.

There will be a formal application and interview process to fill these roles but participation in this will be limited to the students participating in the course.
The specific roles available for graduates will depend on a number of factors, including (but not limited to):

  • Demand from South Sydney Rabbitohs for roles and responsibilities at the time of recruitment
  • The capability of students demonstrated across the course
  • The interest / preferences of students to be involved in various departments across the South Sydney Rabbitohs organisation
  • Relationships built between student and South Sydney Rabbitohs staff across the duration of the course

Fees to be determined by TAFE NSW at time of enrolment.

Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders:
Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are eligible to be exempt from paying the Smart and Skilled student fee if they live or work in NSW or live at identified postcodes which border NSW.

Students with a disability:
Students who meet the eligibility requirements for Smart and Skilled and who receive a disability support pension and students with a disability (clients of a Teacher/Consultant for students with a disability or a specialist professional) are exempt from paying the Smart and Skilled student fee.

Students who meet the eligibility requirements for Smart and Skilled and are the current dependent child, spouse or partner of a recipient of a Disability Support Pension are exempt from paying the Smart and Skilled student fee.

Where you are in receipt of a disability support pension, a check of your CRN will be made with Centrelink to validate your eligibility for a fee exemption. The consent and authorisation for validating your CRN with Centrelink is given when accepting the conditions of your enrolment.

When completing your enrolment, you may need to fill in the TAFE NSW Fee Exemption application form. Contact TAFE NSW or go to your chosen college. Your eligibility for a fee exemption is determined at time of enrolment.
